David Burke at Bloomingdale's

Chef David Burke, one of the leading pioneers of American cooking, opened David Burke at Bloomingdale's [1000 Third Avenue, entrance on 59th Street; 212.705.3800] on December 6, 2005. Chef Burke's new dual-concept restaurant spans the 59th Street side of the world famous department store, offering a stylish, full service Burke Bar Café on one side and a convenient Burke in the Box take-out and eat-in concept on the other. Bringing together delicious, affordable fare, top service and a fun atmosphere, David Burke at Bloomingdale's is satisfying the cravings of the city's most discerning shoppers, visitors and residents.

The 40-seat Burke Bar Café offers full service breakfast and lunch and in the evening hours transforms into an intimate supper spot with a wine bar that features half bottles. A full bar is also available. The sleek dining room-featuring whimsical artwork, flat screen TVs, and playful atmospher-is the perfect setting for chef Burke's creative cuisine.

Burke in the Box, with its signature packaging of pinstripe bags and brightly colored custom-designed boxes, serves hot items and boxed cold items including "Burke style" sandwiches, salads and unique side dishes. Creative packaging for items like chef Burke's Tennis Trio- three sandwiches served in faux tennis ball canisters-brings take-out to a new level. The Burke Bar Café and Burke in the Box have their own distinct menus. Signature dishes include "Cheeseburkers” Sliders, the Dumpling Duo, Grilled Filet Mignon Steak Frites, and Cheesecake Lollipops. Both menus offer a variety of healthy choices. We offer a three course prix fixe menu nightly for $20.09.

Leo Modrcin of uRED Architecture transformed the long, narrow space into two whimsical eateries using vibrant colors and warm materials of wood, glass and steel as well as a distinct patterned floor taking a cue from Bloomingdale's traditional black and white checkerboard pattern. Architecturally the two spaces are treated as an extension of the store's interior, and lead to the main floor cosmetics and the lower level Men's department where there is a display window so shoppers can peek into the bustling kitchen. David Burke at Bloomingdale's is chic yet casual and provides an intimate environment to enjoy Chef Burke's innovative and witty creations. The ultimate architecture is David Burke's food itself, with his whimsical interpretations that turn familiar, high quality ingredients into "Burke style" gastronomic feats.
